QR CODES FOR THE HOUSING & FOOD INSECURE

FOUNDED BY KAI AND JADYN SETTLES

In 2021, we launched the QRhome project when we began noticing that we didn't have cash whenever we wanted to give money to someone on the street who needed help. Like most, we no longer carry paper money or change. Kai noted that someone should provide those struggling on the street with QR codes so that people can scan and donate digitally. That’s how the QRHome Project was born.

The logistics of setting up bank accounts for the homeless, who often don’t have ID, was seemingly insurmountable. We couldn’t figure out a technologically simple or secure way to do it.

Someone suggested we partner with a non-profit. While searching for a partnership, we figured the easiest way to start was to target those who already had accounts and desired to be in the program. The non-profit could identify participants, and we would provide them with laminated QR codes.

Working to build the QRhome Project has opened our eyes and taught us much about our society and our role in it. Even though our country has the resources to address homelessness and food insecurity, these issues have spiraled into human rights violations. QRhome offers urgent assistance with greater ease and efficiency by providing a digital avenue for direct donations. QRhome addresses the immediate needs of the housing and food insecure and contributes to broader efforts to create a more equitable and compassionate society.
